No-cost Home WX

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a national program started in the 1970’s to help low-income households cope with rising fuel costs. Since then, it has become the nation’s leading residential energy efficiency program. The goals of the program are Energy Conservation and Healthier Living Conditions for low-income residents who either own or rent their homes.

The Vermont program is administered by the Office of Economic Opportunity, and the weatherization services are provided by local agencies such as SEVCA.

SEVCA Weatherization serves Windham and Windsor counties, by providing state-of-the-art energy audits, insulation and sealing, heating system improvements, and other energy-saving measures, all at no cost to residents who meet the income guidelines.

You can receive Weatherization services if you are an owner or a renter (with the landlord's participation). Contact our client representative at 800-464-9951 to find out if you are income eligible. Limits for gross household income from July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023 appear below:

Households whose total gross income durihe prior 12 months is less than the amounts shown above are generally eligible for the program.

Once eligibility is established:

  • A certified energy auditor visits the home to complete a thorough analysis of its energy efficiency and prescribe appropriate cost-effective measures.
  • A team of our highly trained technicians is scheduled to make the needed improvements which may include insulating attics and walls, installing weather-strips to doors and caulking air leaks in the home.
  • Once all of the work is complete, a Quality Control Inspector ensures that everything was done properly and workmanship is of the highest quality.

The Weatherization improvements to the home will result in increased energy efficiency and decreased fuel costs for both heating and cooling, enhanced indoor air quality, improved health and safety, and a higher comfort level. The weatherization and energy efficiency improvements may increase the value of the home, and will last for many years to come.
