SEVCA Celebrates 60 Years of Community Action in Windham and Windsor Counties
Westminster, VT –Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) proudly announces its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of unwavering support from the individuals and communities of southeastern Vermont that it is dedicated to empowering. As we celebrate 60 years of community action, we have deep gratitude for you, our community of support and we will celebrate with you. This is also a time we are looking to reconnect with our community to deepen our impact.
Community Action Agencies were established in 1965 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson's passage of the Economic Opportunity Act to empower low-income individuals and communities by providing locally-driven programs and services to address poverty and economic disparities.
SEVCA is one of 5 community action agencies in the state of Vermont and one of 1,000 in the United States. Community action agencies offer a variety of programs and initiatives. At SEVCA we offer vital programs and services in areas such as housing stability, fuel assistance, financial coaching/tax services, and micro business development, among other community-based needs. Over the past year SEVCA has supported 3,768 individuals, with 2,105 of those being households and 815 children.
Much of SEVCA’s funding comes from the state and federal government, but the uncertainty we face with those sources make the support we receive from individuals absolutely critical. Every dollar raised from the community is vital to us providing the range of services needed in Windham and Windsor counties.
The time has therefore never been better to continue SEVCA’s efforts to make our neighbors and our communities stronger and more resilient. Want to get involved with SEVCA?
