Heather and Pat's Journey through SEVCA Head Start

Pat and Heather’s journey with SEVCA Head Start began many years ago as preschoolers themselves at our Pine Street Preschool. Over the years, their connection to Head Start continued to grow as they built a life together, got married, and started a beautiful family of their own. Today, they are proud parents of four amazing children, all of whom have or will attend the very same Head Start program that helped shape their own early years.

Throughout their children’s time in the program, Pat and Heather have remained deeply involved members of the Head Start community. Heather even began her own career in early childhood education as a Preschool Teacher Assistant within our program before expanding her experience to work with infants and toddlers in another program. As a family, they have consistently participated in Head Start Parent Meetings, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Family Breakfasts and Lunches, and countless other program events over the years. Their commitment to being engaged and connected has always been evident.

In recent years, the family faced significant challenges due to Heather’s health. Because of these ongoing medical issues, Heather is no longer able to work and requires consistent support from a caregiver. During these difficult times, the family partnered closely with our Family Partners to connect with community resources and programs that could help provide stability and support for their family.

Despite the hardships they have faced, Pat and Heather continue to show incredible strength, resilience, and dedication to their family and to the Head Start community. We have had the privilege of watching their two oldest sons grow, seeing their preschool daughter flourish in our classrooms, and celebrating alongside them as they welcomed their youngest daughter into the world. We are already looking forward to the day she joins the Pine Street Preschool family as well.

Families like Pat and Heather’s are the true reason we do this work. Their story reflects the lasting impact of Head Start across generations and the strength of community, connection, and support. They truly are part of the SEVCA Head Start Family.
