Chester Community Preschool gets the playground of their dreams!

SEVCA’s Head Start program in Chester has been working on building and improving its playground since 2020. This property was formally the home of an antique shop, so extensive renovations needed to be completed in order for the space to meet all of the Head Start requirements to become a center for Head Start children and families. The space that was to become the “playground” was included in this renovation. Unfortunately, the vision we had of what the playground was supposed to be and how it actually turned out, left a lot to be desired. One issue was that the playground could get very muddy because of poor drainage. Two other attempts were made to “fix” the playground, but it still was not the vision we wanted.

In July 2023, the property was one of many that was damaged by flooding. While this was devasting to us, it provided the opportunity for us to finally renovate the playground so that the vision we had all along, could come to fruition. We were very fortunate to have Jerry Ucci, the owner of Landscape Solutions as one of our Head Start parents. At a time when trying to find a contractor to provide even an estimate for repairs was nearly impossible, we were fortunate to know Jerry. SEVCA contracted with Landscape Solutions to make the repairs inside of the building as well as outside, which involved renovating the entire playground.

Jerry and his team worked over Labor Day weekend to complete the playground renovations. We are so excited and thrilled with how it turned out! The children and staff at Chester Community Preschool are ecstatic and can’t stop talking about how awesome it is!
